How To Format Your Guest Post
Your content should be formatted in the following structure:
- Start with small (5-6 lines max) introductory paragraph.
- Focus on the main content rather than explaining unwanted or irrelevant things
- Conclusion
- Please use header tags, break paragraphs into chunks, typically no more than three sentences to a paragraph.
Remember, our moto is to provide useful insights and information to our audience.
1. Define Your Purpose
Before you start writing, clarify your purpose. Are you aiming to inspire, educate, or share personal experiences? Knowing your goal will help you stay focused and create content that resonates with your audience.
2. Choose a Specific Topic
Mental health is a broad field. Narrow down your focus to a specific topic or theme. Consider writing about coping strategies, mental health conditions, self-care practices, or personal stories. Be unique and offer fresh perspectives.
3. Research and Cite Credible Sources
Use reliable sources to back up your content. Look for peer-reviewed research articles, authoritative organizations, and mental health experts. Cite your sources properly to maintain credibility.
4. Use Person-First Language
When discussing mental health conditions, prioritize the person over the illness. For example, say “a person with depression” instead of “a depressed person.” This language promotes empathy and reduces stigma.
5. Avoid Stigmatizing Language
Steer clear of words that perpetuate stereotypes or negative connotations. Replace terms like “crazy,” “insane,” or “psycho” with more neutral language. Respectful communication matters.
6. Be Sensitive When Discussing Suicide
If you address suicide, do so with utmost care. Avoid explicit details or sensationalism. Instead, focus on prevention, support, and resources. Always include helpline numbers or crisis services.
7. Proofread Thoroughly
Ensure your articles are error-free. Spelling and grammar mistakes can undermine your credibility. Use tools like spell check, but also review your content manually. Consider seeking a second pair of eyes for proofreading.
8. Craft Engaging Headlines and Introductions
Your headline and opening paragraph should grab readers’ attention. Pose questions, share anecdotes, or present surprising facts. Make readers curious to explore further.
9. Share Personal Stories
Authenticity matters. If you’ve experienced mental health challenges, consider sharing your journey. Personal stories create connections and show readers they’re not alone.
10. Encourage Hope and Resilience
End your articles on a positive note. Offer hope, coping strategies, or success stories. Remind readers that recovery is possible and that seeking help is a sign of strength.
Remember, mental health blogs have the power to impact lives. By following these guidelines, you can create meaningful content that resonates with your audience and contributes to a healthier, more compassionate world. 🌟
